What stays on your iPhone
People, details, memories, reminders, lists, birthdays and your Ask Keepwell chats are stored only on your device. Nothing is synced to us.
If iCloud Backup is on, iOS can include Keepwell in your iPhone's backup, which Apple manages and we can't see. A Keepwell Backup file goes wherever you choose to save it.
Ask Keepwell
Ask Keepwell is optional. Nothing is sent until you ask a question. Then Keepwell sends:
- your question and the earlier messages in that chat
- what you saved about the people the chat is about
- a random install ID (explained below)
It travels over an encrypted connection to our server on Cloudflare, which passes it to Anthropic, the company behind the Claude model, to write the answer. Our server doesn't keep your questions, notes or answers. Anthropic keeps them only for a limited time and doesn't use them to train its models.
Web finds with Keepwell Plus
To suggest real gifts, places and events, Keepwell may search the web for a topic, like "pottery classes in Berlin". Searches name the topic, never your people. They run through Anthropic, and to make results local, our server adds your approximate city, worked out from your internet connection.
Our server opens the pages it finds to get a preview image, and your iPhone loads those photos straight from the websites.
Install ID and limits
A random ID made on your iPhone lets our server count today's questions and this month's web finds, so the service stays fair for everyone. It isn't linked to your name, your Apple Account or your notes, and we use it for nothing else. Our server keeps only those counts.
Older versions of the app don't send this ID, so your IP address is used for the count instead.

Friend cards
When a friend fills in a card on the web, the answers travel inside the link they send back, in the part after the #. Browsers don't send that part to servers, so we never receive or store it.
Secret Santa
So that everyone can open the same group link, our server keeps what the group adds: the draw's name, everyone's names and wishlists, the budget, date and note, who drew whom, and whether each person has opened their match.
Each person gets a short code to open the group on another device. The links that keep devices signed in are stored only in scrambled form. Groups are deleted 30 days after the exchange, or 120 days after they're made if there's no date. The organizer can delete a group at any time.
Other features
- Reminders are notifications scheduled on your iPhone.
- When you share a link into Keepwell, the app loads that page straight from its website.
- Some suggestions are made on your iPhone by Apple Intelligence.
- Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.
- getkeepwell.app and our server run on Cloudflare, which handles connections, like your IP address, to deliver them.
Your choices and rights
Because your notes live on your iPhone, you're in control: delete people and details in the app, erase everything with Erase All Data in Settings → Data & Privacy, or delete the app.
We use the little we receive only to give you what you asked for and to keep the service working fairly and safely. You can ask us what we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it, and you can complain to your data protection authority. For Secret Santa, write to us with the group link.
